Five Vanuatu Officials enjoy AusAID-sponsored Senior Executive Training Program in Canberra

Five senior Government officials underwent the Australian Government’s popular 3 weeks executive training program in the capital, Canberra from 15 August to 08 September 2011. It was organised by ANZOG the Australia-NZ school of Government. They described the program as ‘challenging but excellent and very rewarding’. The five are Mr. Gideon Mael (SG of Malampa Province), Mr. Jerryson Lapi (Infrastructure/Finance Sector Analyst, Dept of Strategic Management), Mr. Sowany Joseph (Director of Cooperatives & Rural Business Development), Mr. Jimmy Rantes (newly-appointed Director of Industry) and Mr. Paul Nalau (Senior Youth Development Officer, Dept. of Youth and Sports). They were among some 40 participants from around the Pacific region. They may be the last group to attend this prestigious Executive program, but hopefully it will continue into the future. Such programs are crucial for Vanuatu, particularly at a moment in the country’s history when it is in such dire need of stability in administrative management, decision-making and professional leadership.

The pressure of training aside, four of the team members also took time out to enjoy the ambiance and beauty of Canberra Nature Park at the Pinnacle on Sunday afternoon, 4th September. The team was in Canberra amid its transition from cold winter into the beautiful and refreshing atmosphere of Spring. They arrive back home on Friday 9th September.
